Here you will list pictures, infomation and useful facts about unique Australian wildlife. Choose a list that contains both well known animals such as Koalas and Kangaroos but also include not so known animals such as frilled neck lizard so our international peers can learn about new animals they may not have heard of before.
The animal I have chosen is the Crocodile
Crocodiles
There are two types of Crocodiles in Australia, the Freshwater and Saltwater.
Saltwater Crocs
The Saltwater Crocodile is usually found in deep, dark murky water. It may inhabit fresh or saltwater but is most commonly found in the brackish estuary areas of Northern Australia.
The majority of their diet consists of relatively small prey items such as crustaceans, fish, turtles, small mammals and birds.
Freshies
Freshwater Crocodiles grow up to 10 feet (3m) long, but on average are about 1.5 metres long. They have a narrow snout, sharp teeth and webbed hind feet. The Freshwater Crocodile is generally brown in colour, however this will vary depending on their environment.
The Freshwater Crocodile is found throughout the Northern regions of Australia, from Cape York Peninsular to the Kimberley's. They are found in both salt and fresh water billabongs, large river systems, lakes and swamps.
